The Portuguese organic sector is worried about the effects the growing of genetically modified maize may have on its business. It doubts whether coexistence between organic and GM farming is possible. In this film several issues are raised such as the measures and costs to avoid contamination, the effects of possible contamination on the sustainability of organic farms and maize landraces and liability issues. Farmers, a processor, a scientist and an anti GM campaigner express their views. PRICE (PRactical Implementation of Coexistence in Europe) researches the implementation and costs of coexistence strategies in practice. The Consortium wants to communicate actively with stakeholders and a wider audience. Apart from a dedicated project website (www.price-coexistence.com), newsletters and several stakeholder dialogue workshops, these videos give a impression of the wider socio-economic context of coexistence and the issues PRICE is dealing with.
